Hello! I'm Jingyun

Or Jyn (an acronym for Jingyun Ng)

I love learning about the diversity of our human mind, body and soul. I believe that when we pause to listen to our whole self with patience and understanding, we begin to learn and grow at our soul's pace. That's where we can thrive and live life with unabashed assurance.

Much of my life has been spent wrangling with my health and voice. I was sick and stiff very often, accident-prone, and would be in pain after more physical activity. I felt ashamed to speak because I often tripped up, and my singing felt wrong for the music I loved. My throat was often sore.

But I love making sound and moving. Why shouldn't I get to feel alive and connected with the world? So I deep dived into learning how to harness the power of my mind, body, and soul. To know my voice and be heard.

Now, I chase sunsets, enjoy long walks, and can carry heavy bags for travel. My breath and hands are supple. Less pain, more wow—armed with more wisdom to recover and grow. I perform as a vocalist, I sing whatever I wish for fun. I work with people to understand their voice and psychophysical selves with curiosity and courage.

If you resonate with my journey and are curious about how yours could unfold, I'd love to work with you so you can experience yourself and the world in all its richness and wonder.

juicy extended bio

I’m Jingyun Ng (Jyn) from Singapore — I'm a voice educator, bodymind awareness exploration coach, and performer. I'm also the founder of Know Your Voice! (: In my teaching and coaching work, I guide people to understand their psychophysical self and discover meaningful ways to communicate, move and be.

I’ve been teaching voice-focused lessons and workshops since 2014, facilitating bodymind awareness experiences since 2019, and performing professionally as a western classical soprano and experimental vocalist since 2016. I previously also worked as an arts production manager for 4 years, but later realised it was not for me. â€‹I'm more than halfway through my Alexander Technique teacher training and hope to be certified by 2026!

Some past partners I have worked with include: Esplanade Voices Festival, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), The Voice Company, Orange Theory Fitness (Singapore), and iQKidz teacher training. View past Know Your Voice engagements here.

In addition to Know Your Voice, I co-developed a voice training pedagogy with movement therapist Cassandra Mak, melding fundamentals of physical training, touch therapy, psychosomatic wellness, and voice and performance work into a systematic guide for voice users.

VOICE EDUCATOR

I work with people to discover their vocal and artistic potential. I nurture readiness for life-long voice work in singing with stylistic sensibility and versatility, and in speaking with a dynamic and supple voice. My pedagogy is rooted in equipping clients and students with experiential knowledge, so that they can systematically expand their vocal capacity with growing self-assuredness. Voice training with me emphasise on principles of functional voice training, and understanding the human anatomy and psychosomatic condition. I love working with people to smoothly switch between vocal genres and vocal personas; and to learn to integrate one's bodymind, breath, and voice to holistically express oneself. Some pedagogies that have informed my teaching include Somatic Voicework, Complete Vocal Technique, Alexander Technique, The Singing Athlete, and bel canto voice techniques. I have worked with persons aged 5 to early 60s in individual and group settings. I am experienced with teaching singing in the following genres: • Pop (primarily western pop and mandopop, and other contemporary commercial music) • Musical theatre • Western classical • Experimental • Rock and metal Other than running my private voice studio since 2014, I have freelanced as a voice-, music- and performance coach for choirs, theatre productions, and Ministry of Education school music programmes in Singapore. From 2018 to 2022, I was a voice and music teacher at: • United World College Southeast Asia (East Campus)’s Instrumental Teaching Programme • Harmony & Pitch • School of Music & Arts People I’ve worked with include: • Professional and semi-pro voice users (teachers, presenters, singers, actors, performers) • People who enjoy singing and speaking for leisure and interest • Lead singers of rock bands • Students of Singapore Music Elective Programme and Music ‘O’ and ‘A’ Level programmes • People desiring to use their voice in a way that aligns with their sense of self (gender-affirming and identity affirming voice use).

BODYMIND AWARENESS COACH

I work with people to nurture mindfulness and an expansive awareness of their bodymind. I nurture an appreciation for how to intentionally understand and collaborate with one’s bodymind; and to create sustainable conditions and tools to develop one’s coordination, balance, stability, stamina for activity, and clarity of mind. In this area, I work primarily with teachers, instrumentalists, performers, and working professionals. I have: • Coached 2 cohorts of NAFA Diploma in Music students on building a psychosomatic wellness-and-awareness practice for life-long performance and effective motor learning, and to navigate performance anxiety and pain from repetitive movement. • Facilitated one-on-one sessions with instrumentalists, coaching them on performance presence, and navigating the biomechanics of playing their instruments with physical proficiency and affective artistry. I’ve worked with pianists, guitarists, and a pipa player. • Worked with working professionals and classroom teachers on leveraging their biomechanics and spatial awareness. This enables them to be more present and energy-efficient when responding to dynamically changing work environments.

PERFORMER*

I am acquainted with western classical opera and vocal music, experimental vocal performance, sound-and-movement projects, and voiceover engagements. I love working with creators to bring their imagined worlds to reality, and collaborating with people to build shows and experiences! I have performed in productions and projects by L'Arietta, The Opera People, New Opera Singapore, The Madhatter Project, Mervin Wong, Odyssey Dance Theatre, and Bennett Bay amongst others. I was a voiceover artist for projects with ArtBeatz, Cally Spooner, Voyage Festival SG, and Huang Ding Chao. My past opera roles include Leah (Chen’s Laksa Cantata), Dora (Laitman’s The Three Feathers), Oberto (Handel’s Alcina), and Mother (Chen’s Panic Love). In my leisure time, it thrills me to explore overtone singing, metal and rock singing, and vocal distortions. A stark contrast to the lyricism and naturalistic sounds my professional work sees.

I’m still working on my performance and artist portfolio website (coming end-2024), so for now you can stalk my previous performances on YoutubeFacebook artist page, my recent photo exhibition-recital, or my sound collage creations.
